Director Apoorv Singh Karki deserves respect for ensuring that the captivating tale keeps your attention the entire time despite the fast-paced and dramatic action.
A film that heavily relies on dialogues (arguments in this case), in which Deepak Kingrani excels, whether inside or outside of the courtroom, places a tremendous amount of burden on the writer to pull it off successfully. Manoj Bajpayee, who also plays the protagonist in the Sirf Ek Banda Kaafi hai is the only person who can keep everything tightly together.
The movie (Sirf Ek Banda Kaafi Hai) is a biography of the modest Rajasthani attorney PC Solanki, who successfully prosecuted the young girl in the well-known self-styled godman’s sexual assault case using the POCSO Act. While attorneys in courtroom dramas are typically depicted as larger-than-life figures, Advocate PC Solanki (Manoj Bajpayee) is a straightforward man who resides in Jodhpur with his mother and son.
He squares off against the modern defense lawyer (Vipin Sharma) with a lot of assurance, but it’s amusing to witness him star-struck and uneasy when he encounters illustrious figures from the legal community in the courtroom.
Sirf Ek Banda Kaafi Hai is a thoroughly researched story, and the audience will be impressed by the public prosecutor Solanki’s diligence in establishing the survivor Nu (Adrija) as a minor and that the case must be tried under the POCSO Act regardless of other circumstances, among other legal nitty-gritty.
Even in the sequences where the defense asks Nu probing questions about the occurrence or how carefully the police handle the case, the movie, in which only Advocate Solanki’s name remains constant while other actors are given screen names, handles the narrative with tremendous sensitivity. While making sure the event is captivating, it avoids sensationalizing it. The sharp direction and writing are complemented by Arjun Kukreti’s cinematography.
The goons’ attack on Solanki during the chase sequence in Jodhpur’s lanes is well-shot. Your heart goes out to Nu when she conceals her face with her dupatta while being brought for a medical examination following a police report since it clearly shows the embarrassment she is attempting to conceal.
Or the image where Nu is standing at the window after the lawsuit is won; her brightly lit face seems to capture both the scars and the hope at the same time. Background music by Sangeet-Siddharth Roy heightens the drama, yet it frequently becomes intrusive and detracts from the speech.
Sirf Ek Banda Kaafi Hai Plus Point
He masters every aspect, from resolve to fear, emotion, astonishment, and indignation. When he sobs in the moment, his mother comforts him, and they read a poem together as well as his closing speech, he steals the show.
He is aware that he is dealing with a country that is deeply religious. He speaks in terms kids can comprehend rather than elaborating on the moral or legal justifications for why Baba must be punished.
