Ravindra Jadeja became the bowler of choice for India in their second Asia Cup 2023 encounter against Nepal. He grabbed three wickets and equaled the nation’s tournament record.
Ravindra Jadeja was finally granted the chance to bowl in the current Asia Cup after the match with Pakistan was canceled before they could even toss a ball. In the first game between India and its neighbors, Rohit Sharma, the team captain, chose to bowl first against Nepal. Three wasted opportunities in three overs did nothing to boost India’s aspirations. Still, once Shardul Thakur broke the opening stand, Ravindra Jadeja could better dictate the terms of the powerplay.
Jadeja was economical at the start of his session, but the pressure led him to start getting wickets in the 16th over. Jadeja claimed three wickets in a six-over span, including the crucial fall of Nepalese skipper Rohit Paudel. Jadeja finished with 3/40 in his 10 overs, joining former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan atop the record of wicket-takers.
Jadeja and Irfan share the record for the most ODI Asia Cup wickets with 22 each. To overtake Irfan as India’s all-time highest wicket-taker, he still needs one more wicket.

After a rocky start, Mohammed Siraj went on to capture three wickets. Mohammed Shami, who replaced Jasprit Bumrah in the starting lineup, also managed to pick up a wicket. Before the game was cut to 23 overs, the rain ruined India’s batting effort. With Gill approaching his half-century and Rohit Sharma smashing his 49th ODI half-century, India is cruising in a 145-run chase. With the victory, India will formally qualify for the Premier Fours.
