Australia lost the first game in a three-match one-day international series against India on Friday, September 22, at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

Australia had to play without top players Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc in their Second ODI Also

Australia seems to be prioritizing the fitness of its key players, even if they had their fitness cleared earlier. This is especially true given that the ICC World Cup 2023 is just two weeks away.

In the post-game press conference, Pat Cummins gave an update on Maxwell and Starc’s availability for the second ODI, which would be contested at Holkar Stadium:

“They might not be prepared for the third game or even the second.” Maxi just traveled to India.

Notably, Starc is recovering from a groyne injury while Glenn Maxwell, who recently became a father, is returning from paternity leave and is experiencing ankle pain from a leg injury from last year.

Meanwhile, Pat Cummins lauded Steve Smith and David Warner for giving Australian a solid start.

Smith provided 41 runs off 60 balls, while Warner scored 52 runs off 53 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes. The pair put up a second-wicket partnership of 94 runs.

“It’s nice to see them united out there. We have our sights set on the major competition, but now is the time to establish the standards and establish a solid routine.

In terms of the game, Australia was bowled out for 276 runs after being given the opportunity to bat first. India’s response saw them reach the mark in 48.4 overs thanks to outstanding half-centuries from Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav, and skipper KL Rahul.

India, who currently leads the series 1-0, is getting ready to play Australia in the second one-day international on September 24 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore.
