Neeraj Chopra World Athletics Championships 2023:

Neeraj Chopra of India advanced to the men’s javelin throw final at the World Athletics Championships 2023 after winning the qualifying round on Friday in Budapest, Hungary.

In somewhat gloomy circumstances, Neeraj Chopra threw a season-best 88.77m on his first attempt to earn a straight admission into the final planned for Sunday. 83.00m was the automatic qualifying mark. The Indian athlete, 25, did not undertake his following two efforts.

Neeraj Chopra’s javelin throw distance of 88.77m also qualified him for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Track and field athletes’ qualification period for the Paris 2024 Olympics began on July 1, 2023. The men’s javelin throw entrance standard for the next Summer Games is 85.50m.

Attaining the entrance standard is only one step in the Olympic qualification process. National Olympic Committees have the last word on whether an athlete is nominated to the NOC squad for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.

Neeraj Chopra, the Tokyo 2020 winner and silver medalist at the 2022 World Championships, owns India’s national record of 89.94m. In May, the Indian javelin ace set a season-best of 88.67 in the Doha Diamond League.

“I had a couple of strong throws during the warm-up phase and felt confident that I could make it past the first round,” said Neeraj Chopra after qualifying for the final.

” Neeraj didn’t do enough this year because I tried to avoid injuries before the tournament,” Neeraj said. “I’ll give it my all in the world championships final on Sunday.”

Kishore Jena and Manu DP have qualified for the javelin final.

Manu DP, 23, of India, who competed alongside Neeraj Chopra in Group A, finished sixth overall in each group and qualified for the final with a throw of 81.31m.

“My goal was to reach 85m,” said Manu DP, who has a personal best of 84.35m. “I was thinking about winning the final; my preference was to set a new personal record.”

The Indian claimed, “I didn’t do a good job of warming up before the race, and I think it had an impact on my version today. “Let’s see what happens in the final,” she says.

Kishore Jena, who competed in Group B, also advanced to the 12-man final with an 80.55m throw.

The Commonwealth Games champion, Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, threw 86.79m on his final attempt to finish second overall after Neeraj Chopra. Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch finished third with an overall distance of 83.50 metres. Julian Weber of Germany came in fourth place with a throw of 82.39m.

The 2022 world champion, Anderson Peters of Grenada, had a difficult day, with his best throw reaching 78.49m. He came in 16th place out of 36 athletes, losing out on a place in the final.
