Aquaman 2 and the Lost Kingdom Trailer: Jason Momoa Returns with a Son and Amber Heard Appearance in DC Sequel

Aquaman 2 is at last returning to theaters after a five-year hiatus. The first trailer for “Aquaman 2 and the Lost Kingdom,” which announces the return of Jason Momoa’s aquatic DC hero, has been published by Warner Bros.

The movie “Lost Kingdom” centers on Arthur Curry, who is best known as the half-human, half-Atlantean hero Aquaman and is currently the ruler of Atlantis. Arthur Curry is played by Jason Momoa. He joins forces with his half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) in the follow-up to take on the violent pirate Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II).

The tagline is as follows: “Black Manta, still motivated by his desire to avenge the death of his father, will stop at nothing to finally destroy Aquaman after failing to do it the first time. Black Manta is stronger than ever this time around because to the mythical Black Trident’s strength, which releases an evil force from the past. To defeat him, Aquaman will forge an unlikely alliance with his imprisoned brother Orm, who was the previous king of Atlantis. They must put aside their disagreements and cooperate in order to protect their kingdom and stop the destruction of the planet before it is too late.

Randall Park, who had a brief appearance in the first movie, will play Dr. Stephen Shin alongside Momoa, Wilson, and Abdul-Mateen. Additionally, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, and Dolph Lundgren are repeating their roles from the original film. Amber Heard and Nicole Kidman are also doing so. Pilou Asbaek, Indya Moore, and Vincent Regan also join the cast. James Wan will once again helm the sequel, while David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick will pen the script.

The film has drawn interest since it is the first significant production to star Heard since the highly publicized defamation trial involving the actress and her ex-husband Johnny Depp last year. Heard testified in court that the studio cut her role as a result of the fallout from her divorce from Depp, which led to a lot of online animosity toward her. She said she earned $1 million for the first “Aquaman” film and $2 million for the follow-up, despite the fact that her character was “a very pared-down version.”

Wan, however, acknowledged to Entertainment Weekly that the focus of the “Aquaman” sequel had always been on the friendship between Arthur and Orm: “I always conveyed this to everyone from the get-go. Arthur and Mera’s journey was the first “Aquaman.” The second movie was always planned to feature Arthur and Orm. So, whereas the second movie was an action-bromance, the first was an action-romance.

After shaky debuts for “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” “The Flash,” and “Blue Beetle,” the sequel to “Aquaman” is the fourth DC film to hit theaters this year. The DC Universe is currently being rebooted by the new co-CEOs of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, but no decision has been made about Aquaman or Momoa’s participation in the future slate.

On December 20, 2023, the movie “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” is scheduled to be released. Here is a trailer you can watch.
